Metallurg Magnitogorsk forward Evgeni Malkin ended up being a hero in a super-match against Dynamo. His two goals brought not just a victory to Metallurg, but made Magnitogorsk the top club after the first third of the regular season.

30 seconds prior to the end of regulation Evgeni, surrounded by four Dynamo players, shot the puck under the post and forced an overtime. Right after he scored he got a stick into the face from Leonid Kanareykin. However, for some reason, referees sent Malkin to the penalty box' Right after Evgeni got out of the box, he scored a game winning goal in the overtime!

'Zhenia is the best! Zhenia is a god!' ' Yelled hockey fans from Magnitogorsk after the match. Malkin just smiled instead of answer.

E. Malkin: We were worried before the game. It was a match between two Super League leaders. But after we hit the ice, the nervousness flew away. Though, Dynamo dominated the first period, we caught our pace already in the second period. Maybe we got a little lucky at the end of the game, though there should be a reason why people say: the strongest one gets lucky.

It seemed that opponents played a little dirty against you.
E. Malkin
: I think all of the teams play like this nowadays. They try to be as tough as possible against the best forwards. And it wasn't the first time I got a stick in my face. All game long opponents hooked my elbows and legs. Dynamo always plays tough; they have good and tough defencemen.

Do you have a bodyguard in the team?
E. Malkin
: Yes. It is Vladislav Bulyin. If there is something wrong, he would take care of it. Actually, I can stand up for myself, and other guys keep helping each other because we are the team.

Don't you regret that you didn't go to the NHL for this season?
E. Malkin
: It doesn't as much matter where to play between the Super League or America, but it does matter how to play. It's possible to get better and work hard anywhere, especially in such a strong league as the Russian Super League. I lose nothing by remaining at home. Quite the contrary, I gain a priceless experience. We have a great coach, excellent team, so why shouldn't I grow in my mastery here?

And the coach trusts you all the way, letting you play in power play and shorthanded squads during the key minutes of the games'
E. Malkin
: This increases my self-confidence a lot. In such extreme moments when all of the nerves are at a breaking point, and we need a precise pass or goal scored, my mastery grows especially rapidly.

Do you feel that you are followed especially closely?
E. Malkin
: Yes. Everyone expects some kind of a miracle from me, but my main mission is to score goals and add more assists, and help our defencemen.

Metallurg is the leader after the Super League's first round. How is that for your team?
E. Malkin
: We played well, but this is not our limit. We play better and better after each game. We havevn't lose in four games thus far. I think we have all of the chances to remain the best not only after the first round.
